Backups and snapshots
BareMeta offers two ways to protect a server: scheduled backups and on-demand snapshots. Both are optional.
Backups or snapshots?
| Backups | Snapshots | |
|---|---|---|
| When | Automatic, on a schedule | When you ask for one |
| Best for | Recovering from mistakes and failures | A safety net before a risky change |
| Cost | A percentage of the server price | Included, up to three per server |
Backup plans
Choose a plan when you launch a server, or turn backups on later. The price is a percentage of the server's monthly price.
| Plan | Frequency | Kept for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekly | Once a week | 28 days | 10% of the server price |
| Daily | Every night | 7 days | 20% of the server price |
The launch form shows the exact monthly cost before you confirm. Backups are encrypted before they are stored.
Snapshots
A snapshot captures the server's disk at a point in time. You can keep up to three per server at no charge. Take one before you upgrade software or change configuration, and delete the ones you no longer need.
Restoring a backup
Restoring a backup does not touch the original server. Open the server's backups, choose Restore on a completed backup, and give the new server a name. BareMeta creates a new server from the backup with the same size as the original, so you can check the restored copy before you delete anything. The new server is billed like any other, and it usually appears in your server list within a few minutes.
Your own backups
Platform backups are there for recovery, not as your only copy. Keep a copy of anything important somewhere else, especially database dumps. See Installing a database.
